Virtual and Augmented Reality

The definitions “virtual reality” and “augmented reality” are often used. VR headsets such as Oculus Rift or Valve Index are still popular, with apps and games like Pokemon Go. They sound similar and bleed each other into a bit as the technology evolves. But these two concepts are very different and have features that distinguish easily between them.

VR  Headset

VR headsets take over your ideology entirely to give you the feeling that you are somewhere elsewhere. The HTC Vive Cosmos, PlayStation VR, the Oculus Quest, the Valve Indices and other headsets are opaque to block your environment when wearing them. You may think that you’re blindfolded if guests put them on before they’re turned off.

However, when the headsets are activated, the LCD or Set of vertices inside the lenses are refracted to fill your viewing field with whatever is displayed.

 This could be a game, a wide-angle video, or just the platform interface virtual space. You are visually taken wherever the headset is going – ‘s outer world is replaced by a virtual world.

Tried VR headsets, such as Index and PS VR, and independent VR headsets, such as Quest 2, use 6DOF movement tracking. This technology is available by external sensors or cameras (in the index and PS VR) or exterior cameras. This means that the headsets don’t only detect the direction you are facing; they also see any move. 

This, in combination with the 6DOF motion controllers, allows you to move with virtual hands around in a virtual space. This area is generally confined to a few square metres but much more immersive than standing still and looking in opposite places. 

The downside is that you need to ensure that you don’t use any cable to connect the headset to your computer or game system.

Virtual Reality for applications:

For games and applications, virtual Reality replaces your environment and takes you to other areas. It doesn’t matter where you will be physical. In games, you could well sit in a starfighter’s cockpit. In apps, you could almost tour isolated areas almost like you’re. 

There are loads of options in VR, and they all require something different to replace everything around you.

While virtual Reality substitutes your vision, enhanced Reality adds. Like Smart Glasses and various “smart glasses” at the business level, AR devices are transparent and allow you to see everything ahead of you as if you wear a small pair of sunglasses.

 

The technology is designed for unrestricted movement while projecting images on anything you see. The concept includes smartphones with AR applications and games, like Pokemon Go, that use your phone camera to track and overlay additional on-screen information.

AR Showcases:

AR showcases can offer a simple data stack that shows the time, something that is as complicated as the holograms that float in the corner of a crowd. 

Pokemon Go is projecting a Pokemon on your screen, over any camera. Meanwhile, the HoloLens and other intelligent glasses virtually let you place sailing app windows and 3-dimensional décor around you.

Compared to virtual reality, this technique has a distinct disadvantage:

Visual immersion. 

While VR covers and restores your field of vision completely, AR applications appear on your Tablet or smartphone screen only, and even HoloLens can only project pictures in a limited area before your eye. 

It isn’t immersive that whenever a hologram goes off when it progresses out of a rectangular prism in the centre of your view, or when you have to stare at a small screen pretending that now the object is in front of you on the net.

6DOF Application:

Basic AR that overlays simple information about what you are looking for can work perfectly well with 3DOF. However, many AR applications need 6DOF in some type so that the software can meet the required positions in 3D images it projects.

 This is why HoloLens uses an advanced stereoscopic camera and multistep process to determine the location at any time and why advanced smartphones use multiple back-facing cameras to detect depth.

 

Increased Reality has almost unlimited possibilities. Phone-based AR software recognises the environment and offers additional information on what it has seen for many years, delivering live text translation or pop-up restaurant reviews when viewing it.

 Solely devoted AR headsets, such as with the Hmd, can do even more and allow you to place different applications around you as floating windows virtually. They provide you with a modular, multi-monitor computer setup.

AR is currently available only widely on smartphones and does not have the vision-enhancing aspect of company-level AR displays. That means that until a consumption AR headset is released, AR is now very limited.

The difference between AR from VR

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, despite the similar designs, carry out two very different things in two different ways. VR replaces Reality and takes you elsewhere. AR adds to the fact by projecting information above what you see already. 

They are both powerful technologies, which have yet to make their mark on consumers, but they are highly promising. They can change the way we use computers in the future, but it’s no doubt anyone can imagine whether one or both will succeed.
